Learn all about the bees on a beekeeping experience near Cardiff! Spend an afternoon with professional beekeepers to literally lift the lid on what goes on inside a beehive. It's utterly fascinating stuff. Cardiff beekeepers Tim Wright and Pete Shaw joined forces to create their one-stop bee business with a buz. With 200 hives to look after 100 colonies of bees raised each year courses for budding beekeepers and a shop selling beekeeping equipment and their own honey it's a full-time job for these two. These experiences give you an insight into life as a beekeeper - and as a bee. All the protective gear you need will be provided for you all you need to bring along is a pair of wellies. The idea of these two-hour workshops is that you will learn lots in a fun and informative way with lots of hands-on time handling the bees and the hives. All precautions are taken in terms of safety and you'll see how the smoker is very much the beekeeper's friend! What's totally amazing is when you discover the life cycle of a bee. Be it a Buckfast Queen bee or a humble worker bee what happens during their lifetime is really quite mind-blowing. With Tim and Pete's extensive knowledge and decades of combined experience you'll be lapping up those bee facts and figures. Do you know how much honey a single hive can produce in a year? Any idea how many bees live in a colony? You'll find the answers to these and a whole load more beekeeping questions on these Cardiff courses. Based on a farm estate near Lisvane just north east of Cardiff city centre you're not far from the M4 for these beekeeping sessions which are generally held in the afternoons during summer Saturdays. As you'll be outside investigating the hives the activity is weather dependent. These beekeeping courses in Cardiff are suitable for anyone aged 12 years or over. It's also worth noting that you need absolutely no beekeeping experience for these courses but it is often a great way for those who are thinking about dabbling in keeping bees to get an insight into what is involved. They're also ideal if you're just curious about how honey is made!
