Gliding Oxfordshire

Go gliding on the Oxfordshire / Wiltshire border! Head to this lovely little airfield near Shrivenham for a trial flight in a glider to give you a taste of that flying-without-power feeling over some really rather delightful countryside. Sandhill Farm Airfield is easy to get to being midway between Oxford and Swindon just off the A420. It's in the middle of the countryside and there's the greenery of the North Wessex Downs all around making it a great choice for relaxed and fun glider lessons. The level of training at Sandhill is exceptional. Lee Ingram along with Chief Flying Instructor Andy Sayer and their team boast many many years of experience amongst them. From commercial airlines and the RAF they've pretty much flown everything with wings. There are some intriguing anecdotes as well from Andy's world record holding longest flight sim session to Lee's self-confessed golden gliding moment being when he climbed to a dizying 16 000ft! You won't be going quite that high over the Oxfordshire countryside on these glider lessons but they are categorised in terms of height. We are offering gliding experiences out of Sandhill Farm from 2000 3000 4000 or 5280ft (that's a mile!). That refers to the altitude you'll be at when you start your glide. Of course the higher the altitude the longer the flight. You can generally expect to be gliding for 20 30 40 and 50-minutes respectively with the altitudes offered. In all cases you'll have plenty of time to get an understanding of how gliders work and if you want to have a go at the controls. If you just want to drink in the sensations of powerless flight whilst gazing out at those Wiltshire and Oxfordshire rolling hills below then that's fine too. All glider experiences are tailored to you and what you hope to achieve from your flight. Book your glider flight out Shrivenham's Sandhill Farm airfield and get ready to glide!
